Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Yousef Al-Hashel, Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuwait Institute of Banking Studies (KIBS), Prof. Yaqoub Al-Refaei, Director General of KIBS, honored the graduates of the first and second cohorts of the “Certified Shariah Auditor Certificate” program. The first cohort was held from March 31 to May 9, 2019, and the second from November 24, 2019, to January 9, 2020. A total of 59 Kuwaiti participants, professionals, and enthusiasts in the field of Shariah auditing took part in these cohorts.
The “Certified Shariah Auditor Certificate” program is one of the initiatives under the “Kafa’a” program launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait in collaboration with Kuwaiti banks and managed by KIBS. The program aims to enhance governance in Shariah compliance oversight within Islamic banks in Kuwait and to establish the foundations of Shariah auditing practices in these institutions. It reflects a commitment to intensifying efforts and initiatives that contribute to enhancing the capabilities of Shariah auditing personnel in Kuwait and to qualifying them academically and professionally.
A notable feature of this certificate is its significant emphasis on practical application in the field of Shariah auditing. Half of the program’s duration is dedicated to Shariah auditing procedures, while the other half covers foundational knowledge and Shariah standards pertinent to the Islamic financial industry. The program was developed based on best practices and the latest academic materials in this field. The Certified Shariah Auditor Certificate is accredited by the Central Bank of Kuwait, the Capital Markets Authority, and the Kuwait Institute for Islamic Economics.
Al-Refaei met with the graduates and honored them by distributing certificates, wishing them success in their future endeavors.
